| Greetings! |
Ahh - the dog-days of
August... I hope this newsletter finds you enjoying some fun
in the sun (and weathering a few storms as well). It seems
we've all had much more rain than in summers past. As a
result, gardens are looking beautiful this year, and the crops
are coming in very tasty! The lakes are full and beckon us to
take a quick dip.
Congratulations to Jim Knight of
Manistee, Michigan - you've won a free 8x10
print of your choice for last month's promotion of
forwarding my newsletter on to a friend!
And - congratulations to Robert & Mary
VanDuyne of Grand Blanc for your winning entry slip at
my Glen Arbor solo exhibit. You may select an 8x10
print as well.
Want a chance to win your own 8x10
print? Stop by one of my art events this fall. Visit Niedzwiecki
Now - my new online event
calendar, to see where I will be next. At each event, I
always give away one free 8x10 print via a random drawing. You
could be next! |
Calling All
Photographers - Three Days
Left!
|
That means you still have time to
quickly visit the Lakes, snap a couple of photos, and submit
them to the contest! The perk? Grand prize winners in both
categories will see their photograph printed on the 2008 Great
Lakes Forever-Budwesier educational beer coasters, to be
distributed to bars and restaurants all around the Great Lakes
region. Other prizes include a Trek bike, a Coleman cooler,
and a portable firepit.
Not only does this
contest highlight the talented photographers in the Great
Lakes area, it also works toward making residents aware of the
problems the Great Lakes face, and engage them in protecting
this vulnerable and valuable natural resource.
Last
year, the winning photos were printed on more than 120,000
beer coasters that were distributed to all eight Great Lakes
states and two Canadian provinces. If you'd like a stack of 2007 GLF-Budweiser
Educational Beer Coasters, please contact Brenna at
773-496-4020 or bwanous@biodiverse.org.

Featured at RiverBend Pavilion
|
This week, I was again happy
to learn another image
will lend itself towards creating a soothing environment for
those in need of medical care.
The image, simply titled Viceroy, will be
sent this week to hang in the RiverBend Medical
Pavilion in Eugene,
Oregon.
I hope to continue to receive requests for
this type of imagery. I find it very personally satisfying to
be involved in helping others while promoting beautiful images
created from nature at the same time.

Michigan Blue Magazine
|
I'm pleased to announce I have images
published in the July / August current issue of Michigan Blue
magazine!
Michigan Blue is
a "lakestyle" magazine celebrating the uniqueness of
Michigan's myriad shoreline regions - Great Lakes, inland
lakes, rivers and waterways. Virtually 100% of Michigan BLUE's
content and distribution is oriented to high-end, waterfront
homeowners. To subscribe online
or learn more please visit Michigan BLUE at www.mibluemag.com.
You can pick up
your copy at various magazine stands around Michigan. For
example, I saw the magazine offered at D&W Fresh Market
stores, and I'm sure places like Schuler Books carry it as
well.

Rockford Art in the Park
|
I'm honored to have been
selected again as a participating artist for the 2008 Rockford Art in
Park. An annual tradition for over many years, the event
will be held on Saturday
September 6, 2008 in Garden Club Park in Rockford.
There will be 33 other artists during this day-long
event. A juried art exhibition - Art in the Park
features works in pottery, stoneware, sculpture, jewelry.
glass works, painting, fiber arts and more. A "Best of Show"
award as well as five "Best of Category" awards are presented.
Last year I was given a "Best of Category" award, which was
quite an honor considering the high quality of work
represented!
With the Rogue River as a backdrop, Garden
Club Park is an idyllic spot for a fine arts celebration.
Additionally - what could be more fun than strolling through
the shops and restaurants of downtown Rockford? Come spend a
day with us... |
In Residence - The Governor's, That
Is!
|
The Alden B. Dow
Museum of Science and Art of the Midland Center
for the Arts worked in conjunction with Governor's
Residence Artist's Program to assist the Governor in
putting together a body of artwork to embellish the Governor's Residence
in Lansing.
I submitted four works for
consideration, and just found out two of the pieces have been included
in the project. These two photos (Serenity
and DH Day Farm)
cleared two phases of a three-phase jury. On July 28th, the
First Family themselves made their final selections as to
which pieces would ultimately hang in their residence.
At this point and time, I do
know know who any of the other artists are. However, one
excellent fellow photographer, Steve
Huyser-Honig, has one piece that made
it through the first two juries at the time of this
writing.
An opening reception will be held in Fall of
2008 and all participating artists will receive an invitation
to attend. The selected works
will be on exhibit in the Governor's residence from August
2008 through July of 2009. Stay tuned - I will most
likely will be able to report the outcome of the reception in
some upcoming fall eNewsletter.

The Wizard of Ahhhs...
|
"Pay no attention to that man
behind the curtain..." - The Wizard of Oz
(1939)
At shows, folks always comment on how
nice the matting and framing is on my work, so it's about time
to give credit where credit is due... I would like very much
for you all to meet the woman
behind the curtain - Mary Lou
Gibson Moll.
Mary Lou is just about entirely
responsible for encouraging me to display my work in shows and
galleries. We met in the spring of 2006 after I walked into Robinette's Orchard,
Winery and Apple Haus. I was wondering if they'd be
interested in displaying a photo I taken in their orchards.
Within a couple of months, Mary Lou asked if I'd like to have
my own gallery show
for a month. Unable to handle the workload of framing and
matting numerous pieces, she took me under her wing and
starting matting and framing all of my display pieces. And
she's continued to do so ever since!
A very accomplished
artist in her own right - she always finds to perfect
combination of mat and frame to compliment each of my pieces.
If you are considering purchasing a larger print and need
framing and matting - look no further. We purchase our framing
materials directly from framing manufacturers to keep our
costs very competitive. Yes - there are many commercial places
you can go to for framing - but you will find in the long run
our selection, pricing and personal service a very appealing
option for your prints!
Mary Lou has an extensive collection
of images, to include original water colors, enhanced
giclee prints and notecards. She can be found on some Friday
afternoons painting at Robinette's where
they carry her works for purchase. Mary Lou also does
commissioned pieces of homes, garden scenes and even a
cherished pet!
Thank
you, Mary Lou - for your kindness, friendship and all that you
do!
